Whether breaking your writer’s block or coming up with that breakthrough innovation to drive your business further, creativity is critical. Research shows there are things you can do to get those creative juices flowing.

First, match the mood to the moment. Creativity spikes when you are in a happy mood, so strike when the iron is hot and take advantage of happy moods whenever they occur.

Next, get the coffee brewing and burn a little midnight oil. The most likely time for inspiration to strike is late at night at around 10pm. The worst time is the afternoons. People who go back to work after dinner are likely to find their second wind and creative insight. If this is hard for you, a simple and powerful strategy is take a shower before entering your den of endeavour.

Boost your mood by tapping into your happy memories. Have you ever noticed how certain songs, smells or places can trigger memories of good times? Choose a collection of songs that you associate with such happy times in your life and set it to play quietly when you exit from the shower.

Finally, write down your thoughts and ideas. Not only does writing get ideas flowing, a staggering 58% of people fail to write down their good ideas, causing them to be quickly forgotten and lost forever.
